Question:

In Empire of the Sun, why did Sergeant Nagata attack Dr. Rawlins and break the windows of the hospital?

I just recently watched Empire of the Sun and thought it was a great movie. However, there is one part that I still don't get. In the scene where Nagata beats up Rawlins, I still do not fully understand why Nagata beat him up. Any clarification would be appreciated.
